Skincare has readily become an obsession because of the ample amounts of products available, and let’s be honest, I’ve always felt like a new person every time I take a face-mask off! Now, they’re more than just feel-good food for your skin, but they’re also glittery, colorful and oh-so-fragrant. So your best bet is that this is only the first of many skinCARE posts I write...and plus I’m going to need an excuse to try more!

Straight out of college and when I’ve started to truly and only use my money on expenses (thank you mom & pop for your generous donations throughout this time), I’ve become a savvy beauty bargain hunter (it’s painfully difficult to spend your hard-earned money, and yet I do it anyway). In more ways than one, I’ve figured out ways to earn EXTRA cash to support my EXTRA skincare shopping habits. But one company that has never failed to provide quality products at an affordable price is E.L.F. cosmetics.

While since I’ve bought the following items (this post has been long overdue) they have come up with a ton more innovative skincare products to add to their line, I still wanted to give a review on a few of their skincare basics. I’ve used up each item, on a weekly basis, to truly test their effects.

  1. Clay Mask: Mattifying Mask w/ French Green Clay

  2. Peel-Off Mask: Pore Refining Peel off Mask

  3. Exfoliator: Makeup Remover Exfoliating Cloths

  4. Mattifier: HD Mattifying Balm

  5. Facial Cleansing Tool: Massaging Facial Cleanser

So according to E.L.F. this mask has French Green Clay and Jojoba oil to “clear up excess oils and cleanse pores without over drying”. I had no idea what French Green Clay was--thought it was just a fancy clay--so I looked it up. For those like me who didn’t know, it is a “Sea Clay” saturated with a bunch of skin-healing elements and is highly absorbent...makes sense!

The mask itself has the texture of any other typical clay mask, but when put on, didn’t have that tingly, almost stinging, feeling most pore cleansing clay masks have. It dried almost to a powdery consistency rather than drying in cracked pieces--which made it feel more soothing to take off.

I agree with the fact that it wasn’t super over-drying and my skin had felt baby smooth afterwards. However, I do have to say it still does not beat my favorite Glam Glow Mud Mask product, especially when it comes to cleansing my pores!! I would still recommend this to someone who has oily/sensitive skin, my skin had never felt irritated!

This mask is evocative of a prettier, sparkly version of those viral charcoal peel off masks. It’s fun to put on, but really painful to take off! Again, this one didn’t feel like it dried out my skin--it has witch hazel and lavender which both have soothing properties. It was really beneficial during those days where I felt my skin was dry and flaky since it did a good job peeling away impurities and dead skin cells. Despite this, I don’t think I would be repurchasing this one. I don’t typically have sensitive skin and this was wayy too painful for me to take off, and it had always left glitter residue on my skin regardless of doing a final rinse-off afterward. I’m personally just going to stick with non-glittery peel-off masks!

I aspire to be an efficient packer, and lately, I’ve been having weekends away from home. So, these trusty packets have become a travel skinCARE staple for me. They not only do an effective job removing makeup and waterproof mascara but also soothe my skin with Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil while leaving it looking fresh af with its micro-bead cloth. It does wonders for my skin and is favorable for trips where I just do not have room to pack all my skincare products.

I have combination skin, and for us “combo” girls every now and then our T-zone gets annoyingly oily. I’m always on the market to fix this and I came across this product. Per usual, this product is infused with several minerals that are nourishing for the skin. This caught my eye in the interest of finding something to replace a mattifying powder which would typically over-dry my skin and end up causing a vicious cycle--and I thought this Balm could end that cycle.

I had used it a couple of times on bare skin or under makeup. I personally did not see significant effects in “mattifying” my skin, however, it did a decent job as a primer underneath my foundation. I felt, as a primer, it kind of blurred my pores--especially in pictures!

This is the affordable version of the Foreo, I would say. It's made of silicon to prevent germs from harboring and growing in evil masses to take revenge on your skin!! It’s also dual-sided: one side has bristles for a deep clean and exfoliation, the other has waves to help with product absorption. The only thing it does not have is the skin technology that Foreo comes with, but it’s still a great everyday tool for cleansing your skin.

Tip: Use the bristle side in circular motions to exfoliate, while use the other side in light, up and outward motions to minimize creating wrinkles and effectively massage the product into your skin.

Sometimes my skincare doesn’t feel complete unless I brush my brows, so I had to include this one on the list. Of course I don’t use this product before bed but, it’s my easy go-to when I’m too lazy to fully fill-in my brows for the day. It’s a really light gel that not only holds my brows in place but also gives it enough tint to fill in the gaps. It’s really natural looking, and I’ve found that it holds fly-aways in place for most of the day!

Also did you guys know that E.L.F’s products are cruelty-free and 100% Vegan?! We can all get behind that! ALSO, I’m looking for other skinCare products to try, leave a comment below or contact me at adriatico.abby@gmail.com with any suggestions. I would love to hear from you!
